Arch Systems is seeking an insightful and talented Factory Data Scientist to join our rapidly scaling team and generate novel insights from the mass of electronics factory data we are aggregating from around the world and direct their use towards practical ROI opportunities.

Compensation will be determined for a Factory Data Scientist (depending on hire’s experience) at a Series A stage technology startup based on experience and location.
We benchmark our compensation against high cost of living/market rates and use a compensation formula that includes a location factor to determine total target compensation as it compares to a high cost of living/market area. At Arch, total target compensation may be comprised of base salary, a completion bonus, and a performance bonus.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Arch Factory Data Scientist you will be responsible for knowing how to combine deep technical skills in data science with factory domain knowledge that you already have or can rapidly acquire to solve manufacturing specific problems. You will work with the largest datasets available in the electronics manufacturing industry, already collected into our data lake and well structured.
You will be working on the most advanced problems in the electronics industry that, in many cases, are not yet well-enough understood to be solved with straightforward applications of existing machine learning tools.
While ML experience is beneficial, your primary work happens before any specific machine learning techniques are relevant.
Your role will be to work as a true scientist in partnership with top subject matter experts in the best electronics factories in the world to explore how the unprecedented amounts of machine data being captured and standardized in Arch's data lake can best be applied to solve the electronics industry's most pressing problems.
Your role begins with physically understanding the factory and its challenges, then understanding in detail the data that Arch has gathered from the factory, running experiments on the data and collaborating with subject matter experts to identify how (or whether) a given factory problem can be solved with data.
The outcome of these experiments may result in the choice of a machine learning approach to solve the problem which you would then validate and collaborate with your data engineering colleagues to run in production, but it could often also be that you discover that a different domain-specific approach is needed given the nature of the problems you are solving.
You should be intimately familiar with python, Jupyter, pandas for time series analysis and SQL for extracting data from complex database tables stored in AWS Athena with nested records having arrays of structures embedded in each row. Ideally you are capable of using the top existing tools in the field and augmenting our capabilities over time with best practices.
You should know about manufacturing or demonstrate that you can and will rapidly learn it. Backgrounds in industrial fields or physical science are preferred and a clear curiosity and hunger to help optimize the physical world.
A cornerstone of Arch’s success is our intimate knowledge of how our customers’ machines and processes work both in theory and practice. Outstanding candidates for this role will be expected to grow into world class Subject Matter Experts in the electronics manufacturing process areas they focus on, combining deep physical understanding of the factory with advanced data science tools to drive the next industrial revolution.
This job is best suited to those with advanced degrees, masters and PhDs, as well as 3-7+ years of industry experience in data science, data processing, and insight generation combined with practical experience with machines and manufacturing or other industrial processes. The ability to articulately present and simplify the complex to customers, with clear visuals and takeaways, is essential.
